Applications are invited for admission to the following postgraduate programmes of the Institute:

2. M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology

3. M.Sc. in Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Information Science at Mesra, M.Sc in Geo-Informatics at Jaipur, Kolkata and Mesra M.Sc in Bio-Informatics at Kolkata and Mesra M.Sc in Information Technology at Lalpur (for girls only)

4. M.Tech in Computer Science, Environmental Science & Engineering, Fuels & Combustion,New Materials & Processing Technology, Remote Sensing, Scientific Computing

How to Apply
Information Brochure 2008 and Postgraduate Application Material 2008 may be obtained in person from the Accounts Office at Mesra or from any of our Extension Centres during working hours on all working days, from 4 April 2008 up to 9 May 2008, on payment by crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1,000/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi.To obtain the Information Brochure 2008 and Postgraduate Application Material 2008 by post, send a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1,100/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, along with a covering letter mentioning the course applied for, and two slips of paper (of size 10 x 10 cm) with your name and address clearly written in block capitals, and telephone number, to Dean Admissions at Mesra or Director of any of our ExtensionCentres. Write PG - 2008 on the envelope.

To apply for any of the programmes, must send the completed application with enclosures to office of the  Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi – 835215, positively by 15 May 2008.

You may use one application form to apply for only one programme – M.E. or M. Pharm or M. Tech or MUP or M.Sc.and only one discipline within that programme – for example only M.E. in Electrical or M. Tech in Computer Science or M.Sc. in Bioinformatics. However, one application form can be used to apply for various specializations within some M.E. programmes and within the M. Pharm programme. In the case of M.Sc. programmes in Bioinformatics and Geoinformatics, you may also use one application form to apply for different Places for Study, in order of preference.

Issue of PG 2008 Application Material commences from: 4 April 2008
Last date for receipt of postal requests at all Centres: 5 May 2008
Last date for issue over the counter at all Centres: 9 May 2008
Last date for receipt of completed forms at Mesra: 15 May 2008
Dates of Test for M.Sc. programmes: 8 June 2008 (and if required 9 June 2008)

Selection Procedures:
Provisional selections to the M.E., M. Pharm, M.Tech and MUP programmes will be on the basis of scores obtained in GATE 2007 / GATE 2008, previous academic record and/or written test (wherever applicable) and personal interviews, (and choice of specializations for M.E./M/ Pharm programmes – if applicable). Candidates who have not appeared or not qualified in GATE 2007 / GATE 2008 may also apply to the M.E. and M. Pharm programmes where GATE is mentioned as part of the eligibility criteria. However, their applications can be considered only after GATE candidates have been considered and interviewed. Further, there will be no scholarships for these candidates.

Online Entrance Test for M.Sc. Programmes: BIT- MET 2008
Shortlisted candidates can participate for an Online Entrance Test to its full-time M.Sc. 2008 programmes, commencing in July 2008 at Mesra, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Lalpur. The online M.Sc. Entrance Test, BIT-MET 2008, will consist of 2 sections as below. Section A is compulsory for all candidates. In Section B, candidates must choose a subject option that is relevant to the eligibility criteria for the M.Sc. programme to which they are applying. This choice is also to be indicated beforehand in their application forms.

Section A – General Aptitude Test - with 60 questions as below:
a) Mathematical Ability – 30 questions
b) Logical Reasoning – 15 questions
c) English Language and Comprehension – 15 questions

Section B – Subject Test – with 40 questions in each of 6 subject areas of which one must be selected.
a) Biological Sciences - 40 questions
b) Computer Science- 40 questions
c) Earth and Environmental Sciences- 40 questions
d) Electronics & Instrumentation- 40 questions
e) Physical Science – Physics & Chemistry- 40 questions
f) Commercial Mathematics - 40 questions

The BIT-MET 2008 Online Entrance Test will be held on 8 June 2008 at the following Centres - Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad , Jaipur, Kolkata, Noida, and Ranchi
